Ipad Data Plans

Wired did an interesting comparison in a post this morning on the cost of data plans for the iPad.  The French pay the most and users in Singapore pay the least.  But the US is among the highest cost plans.

The assumptions on usage are presented in the very small type on the right of the chart.   The original article can be found by clicking on the link at the beginning of the story. Oddly enough, Mexico, which has one of the most expensive systems for cell plans, has a relatively low rate.

Don't you find it interesting that in many markets (countries) there are multiple vendors available. When do you think Apple will open up the US market beyond ATT ?

They keep talking about either Verizon or T-Mobile as having a phone before the end of the year. If there is a significant price difference, I think AT&T will see some loss of share. However, I think part of the problem is not just the single relationship but the entire cellular market. For example, in Mexico, where there is a single provider (Telcel) the price is still lower. Competition would help but the US data market is behind a lot of places in the world.
