Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick

Last night's Rivercats game was a good one. Hiram Bocachica was the star of the evening. In his first at bat, we were seated out of the sun and so a bit closer to the field and I yelled to him - "se puede" (you can) - my wife chided me. But right after I yelled he hit a home run. The Salt Lake Bees then caught up. We had a chance to go back ahead in the eighth but in two of the worst calls in history - the blind home plate umpire called two clear balls as strikes and the innning ended. Those calls were so bad that even though I was way in the outfield with our grandson - who needed some run around time - you could see those pitches were outside the normal strike zone. But then came the ninth - we go down two outs with two men on and up comes Bocachica. He then pops off a game winning home run and we win 6-3.

This has been a tough season - we are still 2 games under .500. But every once in a while a game like last night comes along and we have a couple of thrills. Bocachica by the way means "small mouth" in Spanish.
