Guide Dogs for Blue

For most of the season with the Rivercats our section has offered commentary for the umpires. This is a great tradition in American baseball. Some have gotten very sophisticated. A friend who has an Oakland A's season ticket once found biographical information on a particularly lousy ump and continued to make references to his wife and to where he had gone to umping school. There is some level of decorum which prohibits personal comments - but even that is often overstepped when you offer analysis using the first name of the ump and not the more generic "blue"

One of my favorite taunts is "Blue, bring your dog out there, he can help." In a recent game we had our grandson with us and he commented after I offered that suggestion to the ump - "Grandpa, there are no dogs on the field."
