Followup on the Colombian Rescue

Robert Menard, who is the founder and general secretary of Reporters Without Borders said “I have to recognize that the strong hand has prevailed. Our insistence on the need to negotiate with the FARC, hoping they would release their most valuable card, was foolish.” Menard had previously argued that there should be negotiations with the FARC forces.

In the past Menard has said some pretty outrageous things including at least a partial nod to the correctness of torture. But the results from Wednesday's raid seem to have gotten him to come to his senses. Perhaps his revelation could induce others to think a bit more clearly.
