The Reformation in Higher Education

Over at Econlib.org Arnold Kling posted an interesting essay on whether higher education should have or is in a reformation. There are some interesting comments in the posts. But there is also a lot of skepticism about the role and contributions of higher education. The comments may be satisfying but I am not sure they get at the broader issue.
His site is often interesting in a broad range of economic issues.
The comparison of President Summers to Martin Luther is funny but a bit over the top.
