Over the years that I have worked in Mexico I have become a fan of a set of fanciful creatures called alibrejes (all- i - brei - hes) that are made in Oaxaca. This is a grasshopper that is my latest addition to my collection. It is wrapped in plastic to protect it for its journey to the US. But you can get a good idea about how these things look. They are done in bright colors. All are hand carved and hand painted. Many of the best are also signed works of art.
They range in size from very small to very large. You can get an idea of the size of the grasshopper by seeing it is sitting in the keyboard of my laptop. Here is the WIKI on them.
